The Dalles Transition

The Dalles Thrift Store is Permanently Closed

As of August 27, 2022 The Salvation Army Thrift Store in The Dalles is closed. Please read more below.

The Salvation Army at The Dalles will transition from Corps (church) and Thrift Store to Social Services Center

Thrift Store will continue to operate Tuesday - Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, through August 27th, 2022

The Salvation Army Corps and Thrift Store in The Dalles is in transition to a Social Services Center to better serve the growing needs of area residents. Phase I of the transition began August 12, 2022, and is expected to extend through the month of August. The Salvation Army Social Services Center will continue to operate at 623 E. 3rd St. in The Dalles, while searching for an alternate location where services can be modernized and improve efficiencies.

Major Nancy Dihle, Cascade Division Commander, noted that the transition is necessary because although our worship activities have declined, the rising costs of living coupled with population growth rates suggests that the demand for social services will persist and likely increase.

“With the transition of the Thrift Store and Corps to a modernized Social Services Center, we are streamlining our efforts and increasing our ability to fight food insecurity and prevent homelessness through Prevention Assistance programs,” Dihle said. “Additionally, The Salvation Army will continue to facilitate the traditional holiday meal and support families during Christmas through the Angel Tree program and The Salvation Army will remain a strong provider of Emergency Disaster Services when needed.”

The Salvation Army has a long history in The Dalles, dating back to 1889. The organization looks forward to continuing its tradition of ministry and meeting community needs through its Social Services. Some of the programs that will remain active are the food pantry, back-to-school events, holiday assistance, emergency disaster response, prevention assistance, and other services as needs shift and funding allows.
